OUR MISSION

Urban Ashes leverages decades of experience across the entire urban wood supply chain, partnering with municipalities, organizations, and businesses to drive sustainable and scalable solutions. By transforming fallen trees into economic, environmental, and social impact opportunities, we foster the development of new urban wood products and markets through innovation, technology, and collaboration. Our work maximizes urban wood utilization while supporting carbon sequestration, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and contributing to a sustainable future.

As one of the founders of the original Urban Wood Project in Southeast Michigan, born out of the Emerald Ash Borer crisis, we helped launch a national network that connects municipalities, businesses, and communities. With vast experience in urban lumber sales, design, and manufacturing, Urban Ashes has been at the forefront of the industry's growth.

Through our Circular UrbanWood Triconomy™ (CUT Model™), we’ve developed scalable systems that maximize the use of urban trees, while maintaining a deep commitment to the small shops, mills, and communities that helped shape the industry. We work closely with them to design products, develop markets, and ensure their success alongside scalable solutions.

Urban Ashes contributed to the development of the Urban Salvaged and Reclaimed Wood’s™ standards and certification and continues to lead by piloting USRW-certified cities, helping shape the future of urban wood recovery nationwide.

Our partnership with AncesTREE™ integrates fully trackable chain-of-custody software to manage all urban wood processes—from planting to product use—paving the way for carbon credits and amplifying environmental benefits.

With over 25 years of experience, we create sustainable businesses, innovative products, new urban wood markets, and career opportunities for our formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted youth, helping communities and municipalities reap the rewards of a vibrant, Circular Urban Wood Triconomy. Our approach reflects our commitment to a scalable, inclusive future while sequestering carbon and contributing to a healthier planet.
